11 Years of Note Advisors

Lessons from the field and the firm.

Eleven years ago, Tom Waring, Jr. and I co-founded what is now Note Advisors, LLC. At the time, we were a small team with a simple goal: serve our clients well and build something meaningful rooted in trust, relationships, and real impact.

A few years later, I added another role to my life outside of the office: softball coach for my daughter Olivia’s team.

I didn’t set out looking for parallels between running a business and coaching a youth sports team. But over time, the similarities became impossible to ignore.

The photo below captures it best. I didn’t know it was being taken, but when I saw it, I realized it held both sides of my life in one frame: the pride of being a dad and the heart of building something that matters.

Watching my daughter grow into a player, a teammate, and most importantly, a leader who plays with heart and shows up for others has been one of my greatest privileges.

As Note turns 11, I find myself reflecting on how coaching and business ownership share the same DNA. Both start with a vision and a small team. Both require patience, resilience, and a commitment to showing up on both the easy days and the challenging ones. And both are built on relationships and the belief that success is about more than wins. It’s about impact, trust, and having each other’s backs.

I feel a similar pride in the team we’ve built at Note, just as I do watching Olivia’s team take the field. We’ve grown, we’ve learned, and we’ve leaned on each other. And through it all, the goal has remained steady: keep improving, keep building, and keep creating something that lasts.

To my teams both on and off the field, thank you. Here’s to hard work, meaningful impact, and the moments that make it all worthwhile.
